Delegations and visitorsRMIT University has a proud tradition of engaging with leading educational institutions, government bodies, research and industry organisations and businesses throughout the world, and values its many relationships with these entities. The University attracts more than 100 delegations and distinguished visitors from around the world and attaches great value to the contribution of these visits to its international program. Official visit requests from representatives of international universities, research organisations and government bodies are coordinated by International Relations and Protocol while others are hosted by the University's schools. International Relations and Protocol work with the offices of the Vice-Chancellor and Pro Vice-Chancellor International and Development as well as individual University Portfolios and Schools to develop visit schedules. These schedules aim to maximise opportunities to exchange experiences, information and ideas and develop sustainable collaborative relationships that help make RMIT one of Australia’s leading global universities. Prospective official visitors are asked to contact International Relations to obtain a Visit Request Form. In most cases, an official visit cannot proceed unless this form has been returned to the Senior Advisor, International Relations, by email at least 10 working days before the date of the intended visit. The Senior Advisor, International Relations will then liaise within the University to match visit requests with University resources and advise the sender of the outcome of the request. All visitor requests are considered carefully. The University reserves the right to decline requests and not all visits will be accepted. Deputy Prime Minister and Treasurer tour RMITAustralia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Education, Julia Gillard, and Treasurer, Wayne Swan, visited RMIT University in May to meet RMIT Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Margaret Gardner AO. The ministers discussed the Federal Budget and the challenges facing Australia’s higher education and vocational education and training sector. The Deputy Prime Minister announced RMIT would receive $14.4 million from the Better Universities Renewal Fund before the end of June this year. She said institutions such as RMIT would also benefit from the Australian Government’s new $11 billion Education Investment Fund, which would deliver resources to higher education and vocational education and training institutions. Professor Gardner welcomed the investment and said RMIT would direct the $14.4 million toward improved learning and teaching facilities. “There are significant opportunities for Australia to decide it's going to seriously commit to having a world-class university system,” Professor Gardner said. “We need to lift the sector as a whole to become one of the world’s top 10 university systems.”
