Building 108 flooding

Parts of Building 108, City Campus, were flooded on Friday May 7 after a coupling on a fire hydrant on Level 6 failed during routine pressure testing of the fire system.

All floors of the building are open except for Levels 3 and 5, which are expected to open on Tuesday May 18. Minor repairs to ceilings, walls and floors are still required in some areas and will be completed in the next few weeks. The computer labs on Level 3 and in the library will remain closed until at least mid-week.

Level 5
Expected online: Tuesday May 18

  • The Library collection has not been extensively affected but will be unavailable until May 18. Business Library phones have been diverted to other Library sites. You can return Business Library books to these other sites, and facilities at other sites continue to be available. If you need to make enquiries about your loans you can call any Library site:
  • Carlton Library: 9925 4259
  • Brunswick Library: 9925 9415
  • Bundoora Library: 9925 7544
  • Bundoora East Library: 9925 6070
  • Swanston Library: 9925 2068

You can renew your loans via the Borrower Options button on the Library Catalogue

Level 3
Expected online: Tuesday May 18

  • Students can use computer labs elsewhere in Building 108 or throughout the university.
  • For print credits, password changes and student administration, the Helpdesk has relocated to Level 11.
  • The Learning Skills Unit has relocated to Room 3, Level 13, and is still providing the full range of services.
  • The Treasury Dealing Room is unavailable and, because it cannot be housed in a temporary facility, all classes using the facility have been rescheduled. Economics and finance students with enquiries should contact their program coordinator.
  • Students needing to use the Muslim Prayer Room should use the prayer room on the main campus in Building 9.4.

Other

Special consideration and extension of assignment deadlines
RMIT is working to ensure that the flood and the closure of the library will not disadvantage students. In some cases, this means assignment deadlines may be extended. Course coordinators will communicate any changes to your submission deadlines to you, either in class or via email.

Lifts
Six of the seven lifts in the main foyer of Building 108 are currently operating and will service every floor in the building. The lifts servicing the Tivoli Arcade will be unavailable for a number of weeks. Access times to floors from the working lifts have been lengthened and we ask that you be patient during busy periods.

Computer-related services
Some computer labs on Level 3 and in the library on Level 5 will continue to be restricted after Tuesday May 18, but will be brought online as soon as possible. Check with your department for further information about alternative computer areas.
