Swanston Library computers and study rooms
Bookings
Please check Book It conditions of use before making a booking for the first time.
- Login to Book It using your RMIT NDS login and password (What is RMIT NDS?)
- Choose Resource type you would like to book
- Select Location
- Select day of the booking (using View options, or Next day>> link)
- Choose time, computer or room, and select
- Complete your booking; your name should appear on the booking schedule.
If you have problems, contact IT Service Desk.
Not all computers need to be booked, there are walk-up PCs on Level 5.
Hotmail Kiosks do not require booking (10 minute limit).
RMIT staff please note that the Library rooms are not available as general teaching or meeting spaces. Property Services offers rooms you can book for these purposes.
NOTE: Computers shut down 15 minutes before closing time.

Assistive technology
You can access some assistive software on any PC, but you will need to register first. Find out more from the Library information for people with disabilities page.
Saving your work
All workstations have USB ports, or you can save your work to your NetStorage (H drive).
All PCs on Level 6 and most PCs on Level 5 have the ability to burn CDs. Use Windows Explorer or CD Burner XP Pro to burn CDs.
Printing
All workstations are networked to a black/white and colour printers. Information on copy cards and pricing is available.
Scanning
- 5 scanners are available on Level 5 (bookings via Book It)
- 2 express scanners are available 10 minutes only
- 1 quick A3/A4 scanner is available that scans to USB only
- 3 small scanners are available for 2 hour loan from the Service Desk
Wireless
RMIT Wireless network is available throughout Swanston Library. The wireless software for notebooks is available for loan from the service desk.
Swanston Library rooms
Group study rooms
- Eight discussion rooms
- Maximum booking period of two hours per group, per day
- Facilities include PCs and whiteboards
Group design and media room
- Data projector with screen and internet PC
- DVD and Video player
- Tables to seat 10 people
- Whiteboards
The room is offered to RMIT students for group activities and project work. Book online or phone 9925 0353. This room is only available to students of RMIT. It is not offered as a classroom.
Postgraduate research room
Available to students enrolled in study leading to the award of an RMIT University postgraduate degree by research.
Description: Two computers with Internet access. The room is available for use for a maximum of two separate students.
Location: Building 10, Level 5 of the Swanston Library. Pick up the key from the service desk. Return the key at least ten minutes before the closing time. If a key is lost, you will be charged a replacement cost and administrative fee.
Bookings: Online via the Book It. Bookings are for 4 or 4.5 hours, commencing at 8.30am, 1.00pm or 5.30pm. On weekends, bookings start at Library opening times. All bookings finish 10 minutes before closing.
NOTE: The room may be booked in advance, but not for consecutive days.
If you are using our rooms
- Take all your belongings when you finish and don’t leave anything unattended. We will not be responsible if your personal items go missing.
- Leave the room clean and tidy.
- Leave the room immediately if there is an emergency, or emergency drill.
