Equity admission schemes

RMIT understands that your background and circumstances can affect your access to education and training. Our equity admission schemes allow you to explain the circumstances that have adversely affected your education and demonstrate your capacity for future academic success.

Note: Completing an equity form isn't the same thing as applying for a program.

If you are applying through an equity admission scheme, you need to follow the application procedures and any extra requirements specified in the VTAC Guide, individual program web pages and brochures.

SEAS and ACESS schemes

The Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) and the Alternative Category Entry Selection Scheme (ACESS) assist applicants whose education has been affected by long-term disadvantage.

The application method required for a program determines whether you should complete a SEAS or an ACESS Application form.

For programs accepting entry through:

Eligibility

To be eligible for consideration under the ACESS and SEAS schemes, you must:

  • be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or Permanent Resident of Australia or holder of a Permanent Humanitarian Visa
  • have applied for a place in an RMIT TAFE or undergraduate program through VTAC or Direct Application method
  • have fulfilled all course extra requirements as outlined in the 2009 VTAC guide or the university program guide and brochures.

Temporary Protection Visa holders or asylum seekers on Bridging Visas are eligible to apply under ACESS only. If you fall into this category, you must complete the Refugee Access Scheme Application form.

Categories

You are encouraged to apply under SEAS and ACESS schemes if you fall into one or more of the following categories:

  • Non-English speaking background
  • Indigenous Australian (recognised by an indigenous community)
  • Difficult family circumstances
  • Disadvantaged socio-economic background
  • RMIT School Network Access Program
  • Rural or isolated applicants
  • Disability or long-term medical condition

Refer to the RMIT equity admission schemes (unresolved) web page for more information.

Please note: Categories listed above are subject to change.

SNAP Scheme

The Schools Network Access Scheme (SNAP) was developed by RMIT in 2001 to facilitate the entry into RMIT programs by disadvantaged secondary school students in designated schools.

SNAP facilitates access to programs by students from 42 secondary schools in Victoria identified by a number of characteristics:

  • Government secondary schools in low socio-economic areas, with high numbers of students from disadvantaged backgrounds
  • Schools within geographical commitments on the part of RMIT, largely in the northern metropolitan industry corridor and East Gippsland, with which RMIT has on-going partnerships.

If you wish to apply for a SNAP place in an undergraduate (Commonwealth Supported Place) or TAFE (government funded place) program offered by Direct Application only (not VTAC), you should complete the 2009 SNAP Application Form (PDF 55KB 4p).

Please submit both the 2009 SNAP Application form and the 2009 Direct Application form together.

Please see the Equity and Diversity web page with more information about the SNAP scheme.
