Program code - title: BP215 - Bachelor of Information Technology (Games and Graphics Programming)
City campus
There is increasing demand in the creative industries for digital artists, designers and programmers to work together to produce material for a variety of platforms including computers, consoles, and mobile devices. RMIT has developed three interlinking degrees that respond to these needs: digital art, games graphics design, and games and graphics programming.
The Bachelor of Information Technology (Games and Graphics Programming) develops the capabilities required for students wanting to pursue games or graphics programming careers. It does this in the context of a broader computer science and software engineering framework applicable to the IT industry in general. A key feature of the degree is that you will undertake projects and core courses with students from the digital art and games graphics design degrees. Access to courses from the other streams, and further courses in computer science, are available by means of electives.
Core courses are taught in a studio mode that reflects the practice of the electronic games industry.
Students work in a multi-disciplinary environment during interactive media projects, together with students from the design programs. The setting closely follows the games development process used in the industry. Outcomes will include a professionally produced industrial standard game.
Three years full-time.
Credit is given for approved previous tertiary studies to applicants who gain a place in this program. Graduates of the Associate Degree in Information Technology (System Administration) are eligible for exemptions of up to one year.
Gaining credit for previous study or experience
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and credit transfer are ways that RMIT recognises applicants’ skills and knowledge gained through formal and informal education and training, work experience, and/or life experience (including volunteer work; committee responsibilities; family duties, hobbies).

Further information about pathways
Graduates will be in a position to work in the games and computer graphics industries or, more broadly, the general IT industry.
Upon completion of this degree, you will have acquired aesthetic and technical abilities in art, design and programming. This provides entry into industry as animators, 3D visualisers and modellers, games programmers, graphics programmers, interface designers, and digital artists.
Current Year 12 prerequisite units 3 & 4—English (any) and one of Mathematical Methods (either) or Specialist Mathematics.
Non-Year 12 applicants are encouraged to apply and may be required to have relevant employment or evidence of experience and/or ability to meet the demands of the program.
Equity admissions schemes
RMIT understands that people’s backgrounds and circumstances can affect their access to education and training. RMIT’s equity admissions schemes allow applicants to explain the circumstances that have adversely affected their education, and demonstrate their capacity for future academic success.
