The Master of Business Information Technology (MBIT) is a cutting-edge postgraduate degree addressing information and communications technology applications in business organisations. It prepares you for careers in IT management, information and knowledge management and e-business. Supported by leading-edge research addressing emerging IT issues, it offers a broad range of electives to suit individual career aspirations. Graduates from this degree are qualified to undertake challenging positions in business and government organisations, and to act as catalysts of change in IT-focused, networked and digitised organisations.
MBIT graduates work effectively in the public and private sectors in positions such as: IT manager or consultant, chief information officer, e-business and e-procurement manager, business and systems analyst or system management analyst, database administrator, IT project manager, web developer, systems architect and IT contract manager.

Teaching methods and assessment
Teaching consists of a mix of intensive periods of teaching, including lectures, presentations, workshops and group work based on selected readings, which are provided as part of the degree. The exact format varies from course to course. Emphasis is placed on group work, and on group support for independent study and project work outside of teaching periods.
Courses are offered both during the day and later afternoon/early evening. Some advanced level electives workshops are offered over several days and/or weekends.

Global study tours
A strong feature of the MBIT program is the availability of study tours around the world. Students are provided with the opportunity to globalise their studies, have an international experience at a foreign location and complete a 24-credit point course in intensive mode. Study tours combine academic discipline with industry visits and cultural and historical tours. Each year the School conducts tours to the USA, China, Vietnam and Canada in partnership with the University of Maryland, Georgetown University, Fudan University, Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade, Ryerson University and RMIT Vietnam.

Masters: one and a half years full-time, or three years part-time.
This duration incorporates the Graduate Diploma: one year full-time, or two to three years part-time and Graduate Certificate: six months full-time, or one year part-time.
An accelerated version of the degree, which can be completed full-time over one year, is also available. The 12 courses required by the degree are undertaken over three trimesters and intakes are in February and July.
Double Masters—MBIT/Master of Commerce
Graduate with a second masters by studying the Master of Commerce (MCom). On completion of your Master of Business Information Technology, an additional four courses of study from a business discipline will allow you to gain a second qualification—a Master of Commerce.

The sequence of study cannot be reversed.
The Master of Business Information Technology is accredited at professional level (the highest level) with the Australian Computer Society (ACS), the recognised association for Information and Communications Technology (ICT) professionals. Students who wish to acquire ACS accreditation will be advised to study a specific program.
A bachelor degree from a recognised tertiary institution in any discipline.
Mature-age entry
A limited number of mature-age students with appropriate and extensive experience may be admitted without a previous tertiary qualification. In special circumstances, a tailored study path can be arranged with the program coordinator.
Exemptions
If you apply for exemptions, these will be decided by the selection officer upon receipt of your application. We will invite you in to discuss your exemptions early in your studies. Once exemptions have been granted, we cannot revoke them from your transcript.

The Master of Business Information Technology consists of 12 courses, each worth 12 credit points. A total of 144 credit points is required to complete the full MBIT.
The structure of the degree is simple and flexible. Students are required to complete two compulsory core courses and 10 elective courses. The first compulsory core course, Globalisation and Business IT, must be undertaken at the beginning of the degree. The second compulsory core course, IT Strategy, is studied at the end of the degree. Apart from these two compulsory core courses, students are free to choose any elective course to suit their chosen career paths, although we do have suggestions and recommendations if you want to be eligible for membership to the Australian Computer Society (ACS).
