Dr Stan Karanasios has established research programs in managing ICT in developing countries; organisations and social media; and innovation, management and information sharing in disaster response.

Dr Karanasios worked in the IT industry prior to entering academia and he has used this experience to build strong industry/research partnerships. Dr Karanasios focusses his research in Information Systems, however he has broadened this base into the areas of digital media and cultural change, urban digital cultures and data analytics. He comes to RMIT from Leeds University where he, along with colleagues, established a spin-off consulting company specialising in information systems, information management and evaluation. This successful venture attracted large-scale UK and US firms as clients and funding from the European Union.
Stan has an established record of publishing in journals and books and has also produced a number of industry papers. He has been invited to be a Key Note speaker and guest speaker at seminars in the UK, Europe and Australia to academic and practitioner audiences. He has also been invited to join several high-profile reviewer committees.
Dr Karanasios was awarded a VC Senior Research Fellowship in 2015 and is based in the School of Business IT and Logistics.
