Alexander Dirksen undertook an internship whilst completing a Master of Global Affairs at the University of Toronto. His internship involved researching transitional justice processes in Timor-Leste.
"I undertook an internship with the Centre in the winter of 2013 as part of my Master of Global Affairs at the University of Toronto. The position was an incredible opportunity to work on important research on the transitional justice processes in Timor-Leste, contributing to a team of passionate and knowledgeable staff members and students. The internship allowed me to undertake a variety of responsibilities within the Centre, including research and writing up on the role of civil society organisations operating in Timor-Leste and a redesign of one of the Centre’s project websites
"In reflecting on my time in Melbourne, I believe these diverse roles, coupled with the support and feedback from Centre Director, Dr Damian Grenfell, allowed me to develop a new perspective on international relations and improve my research capabilities in a way that went above and beyond my expectations for the internship. My time at the Centre for Global Research was an invaluable experience that I continue to draw upon in my studies."
