This research investigated the effect of an innovative intervention to promote safety leadership practices among first-line construction supervisors, through which greater leverage on subordinates’ WHS behaviour can be gained. The significance of the research lay in the:
- supervisory-level focus;
- complex sub-contracted labour application; and
- innovative, applied experimental design.
This research demonstrated the influence of group-level safety climate and supervisors’ safety leadership in influencing WHS performance in construction. A model of supervisory safety leadership was developed for the construction industry that could be implemented to improve WHS performance.
