Chancellor – Professor Dennis Gibson AO

The Council is the internal governing authority of the University and is responsible for ‘the direction and superintendence of the University’. The role of Council is set out in the RMIT Act 1992 (PDF 492kb) and it is this Act that defines the objectives of the University RMIT and the Council’s statutory responsibilities. The Council is chaired by the Chancellor – Professor Dennis Gibson. The Deputy Chancellor is Dr Jane Gilmour.

In September 2003 RMIT Council adopted a Governance Charter (PDF 172kb) which sets out the responsibilities of Council, Council members, the Chancellor and Chairs of Council Committees. In December 2005 Council adopted Corporate Governance Guidelines (PDF 104kb) which summarise Council’s approach to corporate governance.
