Sustainability research: Hossein S. Zadeh has an extensive portfolio of research and consultancy in multicriteria optimization. He has applied his knowledge of muticriteria optimization in diverse fields such as design of controllers for maneuvering satellites to augmenting ride quality of airplanes. Recently he has applied muticriteria optimization techniques in a decision support framework used in top-level operation planning of Australian Defence Forces. This latest research in designing a decision support framework was initiated to augment sustainability of both equipment and crew of the Patrol Boat Group of the Australian Navy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_Patrol_Boat_Group), and specifically in sustainable utilization of the new class of vessels, the Armidale Class Patrol Boats (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armidale_class_patrol_boat). Key areas of the research on sustainability are sustainable vessel maintenance, sustainable crew leave and training, crew and contractors input in the decision making process, and at the same time, meeting requirement to sustain the high level of availability and mission readiness expected of the Australian Defence Forces. These studies have been carried out in collaboration with Defence Science and Technology Organisation, and have been implemented as Navy Multicrew Optimisation System (NaMOS). Many armed forces around the globe are following development of NaMOS closely. As recently as July 2005, some interest in the program is shown by the Royal New Zealand Navy.

National and international reputation: Hossein S. Zadeh is regarded as a leading specialist in Multicrew Optimisation and Decision Support Systems. His research linking the diverse fields of engineering, management, and IT has been awarded about $500,000 in grants from the Australian Research Council and the Department of Defence. Hossein S. Zadeh has many academic publications, including four conference and one journal publications during the first half of 2005.

Hossein S. Zadeh is a continuing reviewer of two international conferences, and has been a session organizer and reviewer of IEEE Aerospace conference between 2002 and 2004 (inclusive).

Qualifications
