Equity admissions

At RMIT University we know that barriers to accessing education and training can be related to background and circumstances. Our equity admissions schemes allow applicants to explain the circumstances that have negatively affected their education, and to demonstrate their capacity for future academic success at university or TAFE.

You can apply under one of RMIT's equity admissions schemes via VTAC's (Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre) SEAS (Special Entry Access Schemes) or via a Direct Application for programs who accept Direct Applications (usually part-time TAFE programs).

RMIT's equity admissions schemes include categories for applicants:

Special entry schemes

SNAP (Schools Network Access Program)

SNAP is a 'non-ENTER based' access scheme for students from SNAP schools.

This means that selection through SNAP into RMIT programs (courses) is not based on competitive entry (ENTER based).

SNAP applicants can apply for up to 3 RMIT programs (courses) and there is no limit to the number of students who can apply through this Scheme.

To apply under SNAP you must have the ability to succeed at TAFE/University level and also be unlikely to receive the required ENTER for a place in the program you want to do.

SNAP applicants are sent decisions about their application before ENTER scores are released by VTAC. This is because selection officers do not base their decision to accept a SNAP applicant on their ENTER score.

All SNAP offers are 'provisional' which means that certain requirements need to be met in order for your offer to be taken up (see below).

If you are unsure if your school is a SNAP school talk to your careers teacher or visit the SNAP schools web page.

Special Entry Access Schemes (SEAS)

Special Entry Access Schemes (SEAS) is used to help people who have been disadvantaged in their schooling and access to further education. SEAS can be used when applying for TAFE or University programs (courses) at RMIT.

You can apply for SEAS on the VTAC website. You will also find more information on what you need to put in your SEAS application.

When you make a SEAS application you will need to provide further information about the area of disadvantage you are applying under. It is important to give this to VTAC by the closing date for SEAS (found on the VTAC website).

A SEAS application includes information from you about how circumstances have affected your access to education. You will also need to talk about your capacity to succeed at TAFE or University.
