Mim Kempson is flying high after an internship with Vogue – something she doubts would have happened if she hadn’t taken up an RMIT industry mentorship during her studies.
Bachelor of Communication (Professional Communication)
I love how RMIT is focused on industry connections, networking and life experience. You’re encouraged to use your initiative.
"I had to go and find opportunities, internships and work experience, which included an internship in the RMIT media department and writing for Catalyst magazine.
"I also went on an exchange to Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. I wrote for the student publication and had a weekly column called Mim Meets Montreal.
"While in Montreal, I received an email from RMIT asking if I’d like to mentored by the CEO of News Corp, Robert Thomson. Robert said if you’re ever in New York, pop by the The Wall Street Journal and visit me. So I did. And because News Corp are involved with Vogue I asked Robert about internships there. Six months later, I’ve organised an internship at Vogue Australia in the editorial department. The connections RMIT has with institutions around the world are invaluable."
