After taking up part-time work at an after-school care program, Brayden quickly realised he wanted to make education his career. Soon after, he enrolled in the Bachelor of Education (Primary).
It's important for teachers to be able to relate to children and have a good relationship with them to teach effectively. The knowledge and experience I gained while at RMIT will hopefully allow me to be a great classroom teacher in the near future.
Despite doing a music business course at the time, I applied for some part-time work at an after-school care program and was hired within the week. This was how my love of working with kids started – it really prompted me to study education.
Since starting my Bachelor of Education, I have had no hesitations about becoming a teacher. I need a job that provides everyday challenges and that allows me to constantly learn from not only myself, but also people around me.
RMIT has really given me the chance to build my knowledge of teaching and develop my network. The highlight of my degree would definitely have to be the work placements. Having the opportunity to be involved with so many different classrooms and schools has been fantastic. It has helped me to build my skills as an educator and to develop as a person in general.
The career may have long hours and it may be very hard work, both physically and mentally, but there is very little more rewarding than seeing a child learn and understand something completely!
