With a passion for engineering, Elysia Coade's degree in electrical engineering is taking her to Tasmania as a graduate engineer for a mining company.
Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical Engineering) (Honours)
Graduate Engineer at MMG Limited
During my placement I saw how all the theory fell into place in real world applications.
I always enjoyed maths and physics at high school, so I was attracted towards studying engineering. I also have two cousins that are electrical engineers who told me all the interesting things they got to do at uni. It all sounded amazing, so I thought I’d give it a go.
I chose RMIT as I had friends and family who enjoyed studying here. Plus there is also the added bonus it being located in the city. The highlight of my studies has been making fantastic friends in a vibrant and fun place to learn.
During my degree I undertook a 12 weeks work placement at an engineering consultancy firm. Before doing this placement, I was unsure of what an electrical engineer did. During my placement I saw how all the theory fell into place in real world applications. This made my studies more engaging and really increased my skill base. It also gave me an insight into what my future could be like. I really loved my time and found the work new and exciting.
Outside of my studies, I’ve also taken part in the RMIT Hockey Club, where I was nominated Vice President in 2015. I found this a great way to meet new people and have fun playing a wonderful game.
I have been accepted into a graduate program in Tasmania for a mining company called MMG Limited. I chose my graduate program because I thought it would be an adventure and an incredible experience. I hope that in the future I will be able to work overseas and wear high heels instead of boots.
