A desire to help people prompted a career change for Malcolm, currently studying a Bachelor of Environment and Society.
I decided to take the leap away from my cushy IT job and plunge myself back into university life. I wanted to learn about people, their environments and how they interact so I could then find out the best way to help.
“I was working full time for a multinational corporation when I launched an NGO with some friends. This led to a shift in personal interests and created a desire to inspire change.
“The Bachelor of Environment and Society at RMIT was the only course of its kind that I could find, and it ticked all the right boxes. The course has given me many insights into the industry and community that I am looking forward to being a part of. I have been introduced to many networks of people and learned professional skills that will help me move in these circles in the exciting years to come.
“The lecturers and tutors have so far been amazing - they are more friends than teachers. They engage me with my ideas and questions, provide unrelenting out-of-hours support and facilitate what feels like a community within the classroom. The many clubs, groups, communities and committees have also made the transition back to university a dream.
“During the winter break I travelled to Korea for a study tour. There, with 10 other RMIT students, I embarked on a life changing experience of culture, study and friendship. I met people from all corners of the globe and experienced a rich traditional culture unlike anything found in Australia. I made friends for life, studied course relevant classes and gained experiences unlike any.
“Don’t under estimate the inspiration and motivation that you will find studying Environment and Society. No matter whom you are, what you know or what you want to achieve this course will support you and provide you with the connections and professional skills you need to achieve your goals.
