Ayla Miechel’s friends encouraged her to undertake a traineeship as a dental nurse. Now, a few years later, she's discovered a passion she hadn't known she'd had.
Certificate III in Dental Nursing
My program gives you the knowledge you need to explain everything to patients in a way they will understand
I am friendly. I am spontaneous. I am cheerful.
I got into dental assisting because I was inspired by my friends and family. Many of them are dental nurses themselves and this got me interested in learning more about the field.
My program is a traineeship so I work and study at the same time. I came to RMIT through my employer after seeing an ad for a dental trainee in the newspaper. Everyone at my work is trained by RMIT and I’ve met a lot of great people here who’ve helped me become a better dental assistant.
The most interesting subject for me so far has been learning all about diseases of the mouth and the kinds of infections that can occur. It may sound funny, but I’m also really proud that I now know everything I need to be prepared and organise for root canal operations. It took me a while to get there.
My program is good because it gives you the knowledge you need about dentistry to be able to explain everything to patients in a way they will understand. It’s not something you’d regret doing!
For my career, I’m looking forward to getting my qualification and traveling with my work. I’d love to go London or other parts of Australia and further my knowledge by seeing how they do things there.
I love what I do because I get to help people.
