Application methods

There are a number of application methods available to international students. Find the right option for you.

Before you apply

Read the following information before you begin your application.
  • Make sure you have all your required supporting documentation. RMIT does not return documents submitted with your application—do not submit original documents.
  • Please do not submit a separate application for an English language program. RMIT will assess your English proficiency and automatically offer English to you if required.
  • Applicants from some countries are required to pay an application fee.

Application methods

Application methods vary depending on what RMIT program you wish to study and where you have completed your previous study. Learn more about the different options below.

If you are applying for on-campus study in a coursework program (Bachelor, Associate Degree or Honours), use the online application system for international students.

Remember, our team are experts in RMIT study options and how to apply, so contact the team if you need support with your application.

The Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) administers the application processes for places in tertiary courses in Victoria, Australia (including Melbourne).

You are an international student who can apply via VTAC (Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre) if you are currently studying:

  • an Australian Year 12 (in Australia or overseas) for example:  VCE, VCAL, HSC, NTCE, QLD Senior Certificate, SACE, TCE, WACE or

  • an International Baccalaureate (in Australia or New Zealand)

You can apply via VTAC for higher education programs, which include bachelor, associate and honours degrees.

Note: If you wish to apply for vocational education programs, which include: certificate IV, diploma and advanced diplomas a different process applies, see below for more information.

Some RMIT programs are offered fully online. Fully online programs do not qualify you for an Australian Student Visa.

If your program is delivered fully online, use the online application system for local students and follow the local student application process.

Note: The information above regarding "fully online" programs applies to programs that are only delivered online, and should not be confused with other RMIT programs that are temporarily being delivered online due to the Covid-19 pandemic and border closures. If you need help understanding if your program is a "fully online" program, contact the team for support.

If you want to apply for a research program, these instructions will guide you through choosing a program, identifying your research project, preparing your application and understanding the associated costs.

To apply for a Vocational Education program, such as Foundation Studies, ELICOS, VCE, Certificate IV, Diploma and Advanced Diplomas, apply via RMIT's online application service.

If you want to study are RMIT for one or two semesters you can apply for a study abroad program or student exchange.

RMIT has a network of registered agents around the world to assist you with program and visa application queries.

These approved RMIT representatives are well informed about the Australian education system, our programs and the application process and can assist you in applying for a student visa. Please note that some agents charge a fee for their services.

You must only apply through an agent who is registered with RMIT.

After you apply

Your application will be assessed in line with RMIT’s policies and procedures. If you are successful, you will receive an offer letter. You can then accept your offer using the instructions in your offer letter.

RMIT will normally advise you on the outcome of your application within 10 business days. If you are applying from Australia, you should be advised within 24 business hours if your application does not require credit and / or selection task assessment.

If you are applying via VTAC check the VTAC website for important dates.
