Ben wanted to explore the journey of an offender through the Australian’s criminal justice system, so he chose to study the Advanced Diploma of Justice.
I love what I do because everyday in the justice field is different; the unexpected keeps you on your toes and performing at your best.
“Choosing RMIT was simple, it has a high reputation outside of the university and the CBD location is very convenient.
“A highlight of my studies has been participating in two overnight law camps. We investigated and examined a crime scene, gave evidence and prosecuted in a moot court. It was a very useful practical experience as well as being fun.
“As part of our course we get to undertake a work placement at an organisation of our choice for a month. I worked at the Banyule city council, which opened my eyes to what working in the criminal justice system really entails.
“We also get to undertake many field visits and frequently hear from guest speakers including Federal and Victoria Police representatives, youth justice workers and case managers.
“I have learnt key skills including communication, confidence and leadership, time management, case management, conflict resolution, academic and critical analysis and an understanding of legal jargon and concepts.
“After two years of study, I am now job ready for any workplace in the justice field. It isn’t limited to that either, the option to continue studying is also at your fingertips.
“My ideal job would be within the Critical Incident Response team for Victoria Police.”
