This program is focused on students gaining highly practical photographic skills with a strong emphasis on collaboration, professionalism and hands-on industry knowledge.
This program has a selection task.
You will produce highly professional folios of work both on location and in studio across a range of disciplines in the key areas of image capture, enhancement and digital manipulation, printing and output, photographic theory and DSLR video. You will learn from teachers who are working professionals, focused on developing each students’ own individual aesthetic approach and practice.
Our staff, as industry practitioners, are able to support networking opportunities with industry and alumni to help guide you in gaining employment upon graduation. As part of the program, you will not only learn creativity and theory but also the business skills you need to help you freelance or start your own career. Flexible study options are available for those who currently work or are aiming to work in the industry while studying.
Study areas include advertising, industrial, portrait, documentary, video, design, business practices, compositing, digital retouching, photojournalism, illustrative, fashion, wedding, and fine art photography.
Students will initially study all areas of photography in the Certificate IV and are encouraged to advance to areas of specialisation in the Diploma. Students will be admitted into the lower level qualification and will progress, subject to satisfactory academic progress, to the higher qualification level.

You will learn through hands-on practice in labs, studios and outdoor locations. Theory subjects are taught in a lecture format and all classes are taught by industry practitioners who have current knowledge of new technologies and photo imaging techniques.
Students are assessed via folios, printed output, written documentation, essay work, online testing and exhibitions. Although some projects are team orientated most work is individual.

A key strength of this program is our established industry connections with companies such as: Sun Studios, Dimension Studios, Studio 120, Fairfax Media Limited, Australian Consolidated Press, Fitzroy Stretchers, Limelight Studios Shanghai China, CPL Digital, Borge’s Imaging and Michaels Camera.
You may undertake work experience with these companies but you are also encouraged to investigate workplaces of your own choosing.
Many of our graduates gain employment soon after they complete their studies and often win local, national and international awards.
You may find work as a photographer, technologist or paraprofessional in areas including advertising, commercial, industrial, photo journalism, wedding and portrait photography.
Many of our graduates go on to establish and run successful, independent practices due to their strong business and problem-solving skills, and their ’can do’ attitude. Graduate pathways include articulation to the Bachelor of Arts (Photography), Bachelor of Fine Art (Photography) undergraduate programs.
This program has a strong emphasis on becoming an expert user of industry standard software and practices. This helps ensure you are industry ready upon completion of your studies.

Professional recognition and accreditation
This program is accredited by the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP).
Diploma level students will have the opportunity to participate in a two week study tour to Shanghai, China where students will observe and work collaboratively with Chinese undergraduate design students along side one of the largest commercial studios in the Asia-Pacific region.
The skills taught in the program are of international standard and can be used in Australia and overseas. Many of the teaching staff have worked overseas, which helps students learn about the photo imaging world on a global scale. A number of our graduates go on to work locally, nationally and internationally.
