Full-time 6 months.
This program offers a variety of learning and teaching approaches that give you a strong foundation in, and insights into, careers in the design industry.
You will connect with people and ideas related to the design industries and work on industry related projects. You’ll study with teachers who are currently working in industry and have up-to-date knowledge of the market and the latest trends and innovations.
The teaching approach is practical and hands-on. You will learn in state-of-the-art studio environments as well as through lectures, workshops, presentations and group discussions. You will use the latest Mac computers and programs, including Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
It is recommended that you have your own computer, preferably an Apple Mac, which is the industry standard. This is a recommendation but not a requirement, as students have access to computer labs on campus. Program-specific and industry-standard software is provided at student discounted rates.
You will be assessed throughout each semester via essays, reports, verbal presentations, group projects, research and practical tasks and projects.
All programs are delivered in English.
You will have access to online resources through the myRMIT student portal.
You will participate in industry-related projects and external design competitions that are set and reviewed by design industry professionals.
Past students have worked with local government and traders to devise design solutions for Moreland Councils ’Adopt-a-tree’ program, and worked on creating a 70-metre mural featuring 40 artworks, displayed at the Heidelberg Graphic Equipment headquarters in Notting Hill.
RMIT University is committed to providing you with an education that strongly links formal learning with professional or vocational practice.
This program builds and develops your design skills so you can progress to higher studies or move into entry level position in commercial, electronic and advertising design.
With further study in C5316 Diploma of Graphic Design, you can progress into a role as a junior graphic designer in the:
- commercial area, where you will create logos and artwork for products such as packaging or cafe menus
- electronics area, where you will focus on graphics used for websites, commercials, TV and film
- advertising industry, where you will create graphics for clients to sell a product or service through either print or digital publications or outdoor signage.
You can continue your studies in other design areas including graphic design, communication design, product design, furniture design, building design, interior design or visual merchandising.
If you are currently working, this qualification will add value to your current and future career prospects.
