Biotechnology student, Sonia Matharu dreams of one day making a discovery that improves the lives of those living with cancer.
Bachelor of Science (Biotechnology)
I see myself working in a cancer research laboratory and my degree will definitely help me get there.
I chose a science-based degree because I’ve always been interested in making discoveries.
My degree has given me some really useful skills, including teamwork, working in a sterile environment and lab safety. As a student, you undertake a number of experiments and you become very accustomed to lab procedures, which is good preparation for any future lab work you might do in a lab environments.
A highlight for me has been my participation in the In2Science mentoring program. I benefited so much from the experience and enjoyed meeting and providing guidance to the secondary students.
I am planning to further study, do my masters as well as be part of the work force part time and then gradually PHD. I’m not sure about my specific dream job at the moment but i see myself working in a cancer curing laboratory and my degree will definitely help me get there.Once I have my PHD I look forward to being part of Senior Research and Development within the disease preventing aswell as curing industry.
