About Global Sustainability at RMIT

Global Sustainability (GS@RMIT) is a Research and Innovation Institute at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia.

It is dedicated to the intellectual and material development of the key emerging and multi-disciplinary field of knowledge around sustainability, inside and outside the University.

GS@RMIT's approach is founded on the Brundtland definition of sustainable development:

"Sustainable Development is Development that meets the needs of present generations without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."

Our Common Future (The Brundtland Report).
London: Oxford University Press, 1987

A safe and respectful place

GS@RMIT is dedicated to providing a forum for companies, government and other organisations to discuss their experiences, concerns and challenges around global sustainability in a safe and respectful environment, where their commercial interests and matters of confidentiality are not compromised. The Chatham House Rule applies in many of our forums, to facilitate the open exchange of experiences and learning between participants.

We will encourage Partners of the business community, government agencies and non-government organisations to share learning in an environment that is conducive to developing ongoing dialogue around complex and challenging Global Sustainability issues.
