Research Interests
The application of statistical (econometric) techniques to problems in microeconomics broadly defined. However, recent work has been focussed on problems in consumer demand (allocation) models, finance, marketing and political science. A broad categorisation of my interests is:
- Microeconometrics.
- Consumer demand systems, allocation models and compositional data analysis.
- Quantitative models in marketing, in particular discrete choice models and brand share modelling.
Research Projects
I am currently involved in two Australian Research Council projects that finish in 2008:
- 2006-2008: ARC Discovery Project, “An investigation of illicit tobacco use – its prevalence, economic impact and the motivations and perceptions of consumers”, joint with Dr. Lisa Farrell, University College Dublin and Dr. Campbell Aitken, Macfarlane Burnet Institute for Medical Research and Public Health.
- 2005-2008: ARC Linkage Project, “Achieving the millennium development goals: The role of foreign aid, trade and NGOs with a focus on the Asia-Pacific”, joint with Dr. Simon Feeny, RMIT and Dr. Matthew Clarke, Deakin University. Partner: World Vision of Australia.
I am also involved in ongoing contract research with the Starcom Mediavest Group that is concerning with using a number of econometric/statistical techniques to analyze the effectiveness of advertising and to quantitify the return on marketing investment.
