Translating and Interpreting
In Australia’s multicultural society there is an ever increasing demand for interpreters and translators. People from non-English speaking backgrounds need to be able to access services provided by the government and other agencies in the same way as those from English speaking backgrounds. Australia’s growing international links based on trade and inter-country relations have also increased the need for interpreters and translators.
The program places strong emphasis on learning by doing and offering pathways to students to make them work-ready and more employable. Specialist electives reflecting the most common domains interpreters work in are offered, along with university wide electives from such areas as international development, social work, and criminal justice. Computer Assisted Translation is also taught in Advanced Diploma of Translation and Master of Social Science (Translating and Interpreting Studies).
NAATI approved and accredited
The programs are approved by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters Ltd (NAATI). Certain employment conditions, assignments and work roles require practicing translators and interpreters to have NAATI accreditation.
