Interim Chief Operating Officer

Michael Vanderheide is the Interim Chief Operating Officer.

Michael Vanderheide joined RMIT in 2019 as Transformation Lead and Project Director (Project Pi), to lead and deliver one of the University’s largest transformational projects, bringing together RMIT’s people, finance and purchasing systems and processes in one integrated platform.

Michael has decades of experience supporting large and complex organisations through significant change.

He was previously the Chief Executive Officer at Cenitex where he led an organisational-wide transformation that increased staff and customer retention and led the implementation of a strong customer-centric culture.

Michael Vanderheide is responsible for University operations and the delivery of corporate services that aim to continuously improve student and staff experiences at RMIT. He oversees the Operations portfolio and ensures that it has sufficient capability to deliver efficient and effective services including:

  • developing, implementing and maintaining processes and systems to enable achievement of RMIT goals
  • providing physical and virtual spaces that complement and enhance teaching and learning
  • enabling the development of our people to allow them to maximise their contribution to RMIT and consistently achieve their development objectives
  • equipping our people with the resources necessary to deliver on the University’s commitment to its students and staff.
