Dr Terry Cutler is an industry consultant and strategy advisor with a background in the information and communications technology sector. He has authored numerous influential reports and papers on the Digital Economy and innovation.
During 2008 he chaired the Australian Government’s Review of the National Innovation System which culminated in the Report, Venturous Australia.
Terry currently holds the following appointments:
- President and Chairman, CSIRO Chile Research Foundation, Santiago, Chile
- Director, The Conversation Ltd
- Member, Industry Advisory Board, College of Business, RMIT University
- Adjunct Professor and Advisor, Graduate School of Management, Multimedia University, Malaysia
His career started with Telecom Australia, now Telstra. During the 1980's he was part of Telstra's top management team, heading up major corporate restructuring around a customer focus.
Terry has had a longstanding engagement with public policy. He has served on numerous Government Boards and advisory bodies. Apart from his present appointments, he was Chairman of Australia's Information Policy Advisory Council 1996 to 1997 and Chairman of the Industry Research and Development Board from 1996 to 1998. In 1999 Terry chaired Australia's National Bandwidth Inquiry.
Along with all of this, Terry maintains a passion for cultural institutions (including Richmond Football Club). He was President of the Australian Centre for the Moving Image from 2002 to 2005 and served as Chairman of the Australia Council from 2001 to 2002. He has also served as a director of Cinemedia, Film Victoria, Opera Australia, the Council of the Victorian College of the Arts, and the Library Board of Victoria.
Terry is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management, and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering and of the Australian Academy of the Humanities.
