Further the transport sector is estimated to account for nearly one-fourth of energy related global CO2 emissions.
There is a need for credible solutions to improve mobility systems and reduce congestions. Smart mobility solutions, that is, connected private transportation, traffic control and optimization and e-Logistics can help to make mobility more sustainable and efficient.

Urban freight and retail logistics cluster at RMIT is a growth area. Staff in this sub-cluster has expertise in a range of areas vital to the needs of urban freight logistics and retail operations, encompassing big data analytics, distribution network planning and design, vehicle routing analysis, value stream and business process mapping, stated preference analysis, customer segmentation studies, geo-spatial mapping, locational analysis, resource profiling, and sustainable business practice review, among others.
Some of the noted commercial projects and research studies completed by members in this sub-cluster in recent years include customization of vehicle routing algorithms for laundry pick-up and delivery, out-of-stock management at supermarkets, distribution costs optimization in auto-parts retailing, operations disruptions management at cafés, and service capability expansion of Asian Grocery stores. This sub-cluster has also offered a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on Omnichannel Retailing via the FutureLearn platform in March this year.
