The Centre for Innovative Justice undertakes consultancies and program evaluations and has been engaged by the Fair Work Commission on a number of pilot programs.
CIJ was previously engaged to evaluate three pilot programs run by the Commission, designed to assist self-represented litigants in a number of contexts across its various jurisdictions.
The CIJ made a range of recommendations for refinement of these programs, which were adopted by the Commission. Since then, the pro bono assistance program has been established as a permanent fixture at the Melbourne registry of the Commission, and the CIJ has been engaged to evaluate it following 12 months of operation, with relevant material provided by the Commission.
Amongst other things, the CIJ has considered the extent to which its previous recommendations for refinement have been adopted with success, and the extent to which administrative changes have improved the smooth operation of the program.
