We work with you on a wide range of valuable activities that create a successful link between business practice, teaching and learning, and research. The School of Media and Communication, Industry Partnerships and the WIL team can assist with:
Partner a project. Partnered projects form a significant part of the School’s Work Integrated Learning (WIL) program. In a partnered project, students work on your real-world communication issue, under the supervision of a lecturer as part of coursework.
Engage a supervised project team. We assemble a small team of graduates or students to work on your short-term communication issue or project, under the supervision of a qualified researcher. This format can be used to prepare for, or extend on, a partnered project.
Engage a postgraduate research intern. Internships are funded by the industry partner and may attract government funding as well as R&D credits.
Work with our researchers. Our School’s research centres, groups and labs have a national and international impact in their specialist areas. Benefits include connections to outstanding researchers, access to collaborative funding schemes through the Australian Research Council, promotion of outcomes of research, as well as exposure to commercial opportunities.

Offer a paid internship or internship award. A great way to attract the best talent to your organisation is to offer paid internships, or an ongoing internship award, such as the Steve Cairns Memorial Award.
Hire a student or graduate. We welcome opportunities for student and graduate employment and can promote your opportunity directly to our students in specific degree programs. To register a paid role, please complete the enquiry form.
Be an industry advisor. Program Advisory Committees (pacs) comprise members from relevant industry partners and bodies, as well as teaching staff. Pacs work to deliver on program structure and content which reflects the changing nature of the media and communications industry.
Speak to students. Our partners also frequently share their expertise in speaker programs for courses, studios and events.
Mentor a student. If you are an industry professional with leadership experience you can also support students to explore their career options in your field through RMIT’s Career Mentoring Program.
Train your staff in our short courses. Our partners can benefit from training arrangements for their staff in our ongoing short course program. Our program of over 40 Media and Communication short courses is specialised in all forms of writing, online communications, video and audio production, web and app design and more. Sponsor a PhD. Tap into the minds and skills of some of the brightest people around. PhD candidates may come from our cohort or from your existing staff. Industry partners help set the focus and scale of the PhD, can give access to primary source data for investigation, and can even be co-supervisors to ensure the PhD is achieving its aims.
RMIT ABC Fact Check
The School of Media and Communication and ABC News have partnered in a joint publishing venture to produce the award-winning news service Fact Check.
The RMIT ABC Fact Check partnership is a nonpartisan, non-profit collaboration that aims to reduce the level of deception and confusion around the public policy issues and debates.
It will scrutinise the factual accuracy of claims made by influential figures, including politicians, lobby groups and organisations made in TV ads, debates, speeches, interviews and news releases.
RMIT ABC Fact Check researches and publishes Fact Checks and Fact Files with content published through the ABC's Digital platforms.
It is headed by Director Russell Skelton, a Walkley Award-winning journalist who founded and ran the original ABC Fact Check from 2013 until mid-2016.
Journalism academic staff, students and alumni are working with the team to research the emergence and value of Fact Check journalism in today's media landscape.
The assembled RMIT ABC Fact Check team are an anchor tenant in the new RMIT Media Precinct, an industry-leading studio, teaching and production facility.
The partnership aspires to apply the best practices of both journalism and academic scholarship to further public knowledge and understanding.
