National sustainability and heritage commercial buildings project
The energy performance and associated environmental impacts of commercial buildings with heritage values were studied through computer analytical modelling.
Partner: Department of Planning and Community Development (Victoria)
(2010–2012)
Undertaken on behalf of the Department of Planning and Community Development Victoria, for the Heritage Chairs and Officials of Australia and New Zealand (HCOANZ), the project methodically and systematically studied the energy performance and associated environmental impacts of existing commercial buildings with heritage values through various implementations of energy efficient strategies via computer analytical modelling. In addition, it also aimed to serve as a benchmarking study to improve understanding of how these buildings perform under the increasingly stringent energy efficiency requirements of the Building Code of Australia. It explored the actual operational energy and water usage of the case study buildings through NABERS Whole Building Energy and Water Rating and compared them with the computer simulated results.
