Career Advancement for Academic Women (CAAWP)

This program resulted from work undertaken by The CoBL Gender Equity and Inclusion Action Plan, Career Stream (GEIRG-CS), sponsored by the Associate Deputy Vice-Chancellor (ADVC) R&I.

The aim of the CAAWP is to inspire, encourage and support women in COBL to reach their full career potential through a series of workshop to assist in long term career planning. Specifically, this program will assist in increasing self-awareness of strengths and development needs that are required to achieve long term career goals as an academic.

Key objectives of the CAAWP include:

  • Increase your awareness of your leadership strengths and development needs by setting career goals
  • Give you a better understanding of how your work will make an impact on teaching and research
  • Enhance your negotiation and networking skills and build a stronger network
  • Become part of a dynamic community of Women in CoBL

Program format

The CAAWP provides three training workshops that will help women academics develop their capabilities in Career Planning, Career Building, and Building a Support Network. Topics/themes include:

  • Self-awareness including identifying your strengths
  • Articulating your career goals
  • Finding your niche
  • Mapping your career vision onto activities
  • Finding work-life balance, balancing admin/teachi ng/research
  • Action Plan development
  • Tapping into RMIT’s career development /opportunities
  • How to build a support network
  • The art of self-promotion
  • Negotiation and influencing
