About

The RMIT Information Integrity Hub

The Information Integrity Hub is an initiative of RMIT's School of Media and Communication that brings together the best of quality journalism and academic excellence to empower people and communities to be critical media consumers and producers.

Our mission is to promote information integrity by building critical awareness of and combating harmful online information through world-class education and research. This work is funded by RMIT, grants and philanthropic donations.

What we do

Our work includes:

  • Undertaking projects that strengthen information integrity
  • Informing national discussions about misinformation, disinformation and hate speech
  • Training industry, government and community groups in fact checking and verification
  • Providing free education resources and tools for learners of all ages

We also collaborate with other research groups and networks such as the RMIT Digital Hostility and Disinformation Lab.

The integrity hub provides a platform for sharing academic research from a range of disciplinary perspectives to shed light on the causes, creation and impact of different forms of harmful information.

Why information integrity matters

Information integrity refers to the accuracy, consistency and reliability of information, and it is being eroded by the unprecedented spread of online misinformation, disinformation and hate speech, fuelled by new digital technologies such as artificial intelligence.

The United Nations has warned that our collective ability to seek, receive and share quality information — the basis of our fundamental right to freedom of opinion and expression — is under threat, and has called for urgent action to strengthen information integrity.
