Andrew Jaspan is the Director of the Global Academy. He has more than 30 years experience at the forefront of digital and print media, editing major broadsheet newspapers in the UK and Australia.
He is the Founder and was the Editor of The Conversation, Australia's largest independent news and commentary site that now operates in countries including Africa, US, UK, France, Canada, Spain, New Zealand and Indonesia.
In April 2017, Andrew began work on developing The Global Academy which aims to develop new forms and narratives for global journalism. Based at RMIT University with the support of Melbourne, Deakin, Western Sydney and RMIT universities.
Previously Andrew edited newspapers including The Observer (London), Scotland on Sunday (Edinburgh), The Scotsman, The Sunday Herald (Glasgow), The Melbourne Age and The Sunday Age (Australia); he was Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of The Big Issue (London) and worked at The Times and The Sunday Times (London).
Andrew has also held a range of non-executive, consulting and academic roles with organisations including The NZ Herald, Liberation (Paris), RMIT University's Global Cities Institute, and Senior Research Fellow with the University of Melbourne's Faculty of Engineering.
Andrew is Professorial Fellow in School of Media and Communication, RMIT, Melbourne; Senior Research Fellow in the Faculty of Engineering and Infrastructure, University of Melbourne. He has a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Politics and Modern History from the University of Manchester. He is a graduate of the 20:20 Management Course run by UK's Common Purpose.
