Distinguished Professor Adrian Mouritz is the Dean of Engineering and the Head of the School of Engineering.

Overview

Adrian Mouritz has held many leadership positions at RMIT in addition to the current role of Dean of Engineering. He was the former Acting Head of the School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Discipline Head for Aerospace and Aviation, and Discipline Head of Manufacturing, Materials and Mechatronic Engineering.

Dr Mouritz is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering (FTSE), Fellow of Engineers Australia (FIEAust) and Certified Practising Engineer (CPEng). He is also a World and Life Fellow of the International Committee of Composite Materials.

Dr Mouritz performs fundamental and applied research into fibre reinforced polymer composites covering a wide range of topics. He has received over $25 million of research income and has supervised more than 35 MEng and PhD students to completion.

Dr Mouritz undertakes research with a large number of companies and agencies, which includes Boeing, Ford, Department of Defence, and United States Office of Naval Research. He is also the Editor of Composites Part C and Composites Communications, and an editorial board member of numerous journals including Composites Part A and Journal of Sandwich Structures and Materials.

Adrian Mouritz has the following academic qualifications: BAppSc (RMIT), MEng (RMIT), MSc (Melbourne), PhD (Cambridge) and ScD (Cambridge).

Prior to joining RMIT in 2000, Dr Mouritz was a Senior Research Scientists with the Defence Science & Technology Organisation for ten years.

Research

Distinguished Professor Mouritz has made outstanding individual contributions to the field of composites engineering that has led to high value improvements to processes and technologies for the aerospace, maritime and automotive industry sectors in Australia and overseas. In addition to the application of his research contributions, he has demonstrated exceptional leadership in research innovation at the interfaces between the public sector, universities, defence and industry.
