Overview

The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course gives you the academic English skills you need to pathway into a program at RMIT University or other learning institutes. Our students come from across the world to learn from passionate educators who have played an integral part of our 50 year history. Our programs use a hybrid of face-to-face, online learning and diverse assessments tasks to set our students up for English excellence in study, work and life.

Delivery method and class schedules

We offer face-to-face English language teaching in the CBD of Melbourne, Australia. As many of the impacts from the pandemic reduce globally, it has been decided that from 30 June 2023, all RMIT Training students must attend face-to-face classes on campus in Australia.

This applies to both students who have commenced English for Academic Purposes (EAP) before June 30, 2023, and those planning to enrol after that time.

If students enrolled prior to June 30 have been studying remotely from offshore, they will need to start making plans to arrive onshore in Australia by June 30, 2023, unless there are circumstances beyond their control. If you are in this situation, please contact us to discuss your personal circumstances.

To facilitate this transition back to face-to-face learning, RMIT Training will continue to offer online remote learning for students until June 30, 2023.

The REW English for Academic Purposes course is uniquely designed by our Academic staff meaning you receive a tailored English learning experience.

Our English for Academic Purposes course is available in 6 levels.

Elementary

Learn English to communicate in everyday situations.

What you will learn

Practice listening, speaking, reading and writing about the weather, activities, feelings, routines, giving directions and instructions, likes and dislikes.

Delivery

You will work in pairs, small groups and independently to complete class activities and tasks.

Classes are delivered in person and/or online.

REW EAP Guarantee

Our REW EAP Guarantee promises that if you did your best and didn’t quite pass, we will let you sit the module again for FREE.

To be eligible for the REW EAP Guarantee, you must:

Study 100% remotely
Attend a minimum of 95% of classes online (over the 10 week module)
Only one macroskill not achieved
Achieve minimum overall results of Credit (CR)

Local Students

Australian permanent residents and citizens are welcome to study with RMIT English Worldwide. However, please be aware that this is a full-fee course and there are no government subsidised places. Fees applicable are the same as international students, ie $260 enrolment fee + $490 per study week (2023). The full tuition fees need to be paid upfront to be accepted into the program as there are no instalment plans available.

How do I enrol in my EAP course and attend orientation?

RMIT English Worldwide Student Services will contact all new students via email with important information about enrolment and orientation.

Enrolment:

Enrolment opens 2 weeks prior to the start of each module. New students will receive an email from REW Student Services with:

The enrolment form – complete the form to enrol
Information about how to access your RMIT student email and Canvas account
An online learning checklist – find out what you need in order to participate in class

Orientation:

Orientation is compulsory for all new English for Academic Purposes students. It takes place on the Friday before the start of each module.

The orientation program has two parts:

New Student Orientation

Academic Support: Find out about the assessment and academic support available
Student Experience: Learn about the activities and events at RMIT Training. It’s a great way to meet other students
Wellbeing: Find out how to access confidential support services available to guide you through your studies
Student Services: Learn more about your tuition fees, attendance, and policies/procedures

How many weeks of English study do I need?

The length of your EAP program will be determined by your current level of English, the level of English you wish to reach, and how well you progress. EAP at RMIT English Worldwide is delivered in 5-week modules. Each level is delivered over two 5-week modules.

I don’t know my level of EAP program. How can I find out?

The first step is to take an English language placement test. The test will evaluate your reading, writing, speaking, and listening abilities. The results will determine what level you will be placed in.
