BUILDING
Building 15
Built to house aeronautical engineering workshops, the factory-like style of this simple building on University Walk reflects its origins in World War Two, a time of emergency and austerity.
Construction started in 1941, when Australia urgently needed more aircraft expertise and skills. The five-storey building was completed in 1945 and once housed a wind tunnel and dynamics laboratory.
It now features a glass-encased stairwell and is home to the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute.
