RMIT recognised as an Employer of Choice

RMIT University has been named as an Employer of Choice for Gender Equality (EOCGE).

Welcoming the announcement, Vice-Chancellor and President Martin Bean CBE emphasised the importance of a diverse workplace in creating transformative student experiences and shaping the world with innovative research.

“I am proud that, led by our values of inclusion and courage, we are committed to creating an environment where everyone can contribute, grow and succeed at every level,” Martin said.

“Equal opportunity in the workplace is absolutely fundamental.

“As a university, a place of learning, co-creation and collaboration, RMIT has a responsibility to reflect the diverse communities we serve.”

Employer of Choice for Gender Equality

Areas of progress in 2017 included an increased proportion of females in executive positions, from 38.6 per cent to 49.3 per cent, and achieving gender parity for the RMIT governing council.

Martin said that while today’s citation was an important milestone that should be celebrated, this was just the start of RMIT’s journey to become an Employer of Choice in diversity and inclusion.

Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) Director Libby Lyons said the citation holders are setting the benchmark for other Australian workplaces.

“I congratulate all the 2017-18 citation holders for their commitment and recognition of the benefits improved gender equality can bring to their business,” she said.

WGEA’s highly renowned citation is designed to promote an active commitment to achieving gender equality in Australian workplaces.
