The School of Management is committed to excellence in applied research.
Our research strengths fall into four major interrelated areas:
People, organisations and work focuses on the leadership and management of people in the workplace, as well as the wider economic, political, social and cultural environment in which organisations operate.
Our academics explore such issues as leadership, diversity, employment relations, HRM, skills and human resource development, organisational innovations and sustainability, corporate social responsibility, employee commitment and wellbeing. We also have an international business focus with researchers focusing in particular on the emerging economies of China, Vietnam and Bangladesh. We host the Centre of People, Organisations and Work and support the Global Business Innovation Enabling Impact Platform.
Entrepreneurship and innovation addresses issues of disruptive change and complexity facing entrepreneurs, innovators and designers in the-for-profit and not-for-profit sectors. This includes social business, women and entrepreneurship and the contribution of migrants to business development. Such research offers relevant, novel and applied knowledge to a range of key stakeholders including practicing entrepreneurs, innovators in a range of critical fields, policy makers, employers and community organisations at local, regional, national and international levels. We have links to RMIT’s Accelerator and Incubator and the Ideas Lab.
Social Change focuses on innovative approaches to the investigation of social, cultural and political questions.
The work develops theoretically informed applications and promotes methodological innovation. Researchers in this area lever data analysis in leading and distinct ways on specific topics such as social care, regional development and Smart cities. An overarching dimension is a focus on progressive social change, improvement and care. We support the Social Change Enabling Impact Platform.
Researchers investigate the theoretical and practical insights of various aspects of foreign direct investment (FDI) and multinational enterprises (MNEs) into and from emerging countries and the impact of FDI and MNEs on host-country firms, society, and environment. More specifically, the investigations focus on three converging streams on firm decisions, strategies, and operations:
