Culture Film Series: Spirited Away (2001)

Culture's new film series: The Best Films You've Never Seen, will screen some of the 'new' classics from the BFI's 'The Greatest Films of All Time', featuring films you might never had a chance to see on the big screen (or you're excited to rewatch!)

Once a decade the BFI's Sight and Sound magazine asks critics to select the best films ever made, and has been uniting global film critics, programmers, curators, archivists, and academics since 1952. RMIT's own Adrian Danks and Alexia Kannas contributed to the list, and throughout the year we'll be screening some of the films that have made the top 100 for the first time, starting with Spirited Away (2001) at The Capitol on Tuesday 21 February.

Come and enjoy Hayao Miyazaki's rich anime fantasy following its young female heroine into the labyrinth of a spirit-world bathhouse, teeming with phantoms and peril. Known for its imaginative and visually stunning animation, as well as its themes of growing up, facing one's fears, and the power of self-discovery, this film is an all-time favourite.
