New blockchain courses to address skills gap

With blockchain expertise in high demand, but considerable gaps preventing this demand from being met, RMIT has announced two new courses to provide students with these necessary future skills.

Designing Blockchain Solutions New blockchain courses will help address the demand for qualified blockchain professionals

Forming part of the RMIT Online portfolio of industry-endorsed short courses for executives, professionals and those looking to accessibly future-proof their careers, the courses will cover strategic blockchain solutions and blockchain infrastructure design.

RMIT Online CEO Helen Souness said the organisation’s first short course on blockchain, Developing Blockchain Strategy, sold out in just 48 hours.

“We’re excited to be pioneering these courses with our expert partners at Accenture and Stone and Chalk,” she said.

Souness said the courses were “upskilling and inspiring professionals to explore real-life applications of blockchain technology within their businesses”.

Today’s launch closely follows a partnership announcement between RMIT and Credly, which has enabled students to access blockchain-enabled digital credentials.

The latest courses are set up to support managers, entrepreneurs, consultants, tech enthusiasts, software developers and everyone in between, to develop a technical understanding of distributed ledger technologies infrastructure without the need for programming skills.

Designing Blockchain Solutions will help students further their understanding of the technology solutions through various blockchain platforms while Developing Blockchain Applications will teach students how to design blockchain infrastructure for their own business needs.

Various blockchain platforms, including Ethereum and those within the Hyperledger project (Sawtooth, Fabric and Composer), will be explored.

Global investment in blockchain is expected to surpass $2 billion by 2021, evidence of how rapidly the technology has moved from the research and development phase through to real-world applications.

Both courses are fully credentialed by RMIT and will run for six weeks.
