Background

This project successfully developed RMIT capabilities to identify mega trends and plausible future scenarios for living, working, researching and investing in environments affected by emerging technologies and markets. It brought experts across colleges to co-create roadmaps in thematic areas, increased future collaborative opportunities to develop research projects and engage with various external stakeholders by involving them in co-development of future roadmaps.

The main objective of this initiative was to develop internal capabilities for strategic and technology roadmapping. Workshops and advanced modules (training of trainers) was offered at the initial stage by leading roadmapping experts from the Institute for Manufacturing (IfM) - University of Cambridge, Department of Engineering. By providing the ‘training of trainers’ modules and training the RMIT innovation champions, the goal was to deploy the capabilities to further strengthen the research capabilities, lead workshops with various external stakeholders and drive collaboration in thematic areas.

Virtual workshop on Integrated Photonics and Applications Centre (InPAC)

One project outcome was a virtual workshop on Integrated Photonics and Applications Centre (InPAC) in the domain of Lithium Niobate on Insulator (LNOI), led by Professor Arnan Mitchell.  The workshop intended to reach a common understanding, shared vision and develop a working roadmap to be further communicated and co-elaborated with external stakeholders. The LNOI has been gaining increased attention, thus deploying the strategic and technology roadmapping capabilities to guide the decisions become of great relevance.

Technological Roadmapping awareness building webinar

Another online opportunity was a Technological Roadmapping awareness building webinar conducted by leading roadmapping expert Dr. Clemens Chaskel, University of Cambridge was very popular and proved extremely valuable.

Train-the-trainer workshop

An advanced module - a two-day physical train-the-trainer workshop was run exploring a bioprinting domain as a use case and the development of further roadmaps related to biosolids to value-added carbon products; human resource deployment for bioprinting; technology adoption etc. Other networking and learning opportunities offered all proved to be embraced wholeheartedly by significant size and diverse audiences, and in particular, from participants coming from various industries.
