Destination Australia Scholarship

For students enrolled full-time in an aviation program at RMIT’s Bendigo campus; worth up to $15,000.

This scholarship provides:

  • $7,500 (full-time enrolled) for the Associate Degree in Aviation (Professional Pilot), for one semester . 
  • $15,000 per year ($7,500 per semester, full-time enrolled) for the Bachelor of Aviation (Pilot Training), for up to two and a half years.

To be eligible for this scholarship you must:

  • be an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident or a permanent humanitarian visa holder 
  • be commencing full-time study in semester 1 2024 in either the: 
  • be studying/taking the flying component at RMIT’s Bendigo campus (not at RMIT’s Point Cook campus)
  • be residing in a regional area
  • be committed to becoming a commercial pilot
  • interested after graduating in a flying career that includes regional Australia

Preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate financial disadvantage.

Supporting documentation

Depending on your circumstances, you will need to provide different types of evidence and material to support your scholarship application. Applications without supporting documents will not be considered.

Applicants must submit the following documentation:

  • Proof of your permanent residence (such as driver's license or bank account statement)
  • Proof of your residence for the semester (such as driver's license or lease/rental agreement)

Application questions

It is expected that the online application will take approximately thirty minutes to complete. The main application questions are listed below to allow you time to prepare your answers in advance prior to starting the online application.

  • Why do you want to become an air pilot?
  • Describe the steps you will take to achieve your goal of becoming a commercial pilot.
  • How does your goal include working in regional Australia? (Ensure you include working in regional Australia as a part of your future career goals, as this is a part of the eligibility criteria for the scholarship).

Destination Australia – an Australian Government initiative

Destination Australia Scholarships were established to support the sustainability and growth of tertiary providers and communities in regional Australia. The intended outcome for scholarships recipients is to provide support whilst studying in regional Australia and for post-study to live and work in regional Australia.

Recipients of this scholarship:

  • Must maintain satisfactory academic performance each semester for the scholarship to continue
  • Are not permitted to change from RMIT’s Bendigo campus and keep the scholarship
  • Must maintain residence in a regional location
  • Are not allowed to take leave or study part-time and keep the scholarship
  • Understand that information will be provided to the Department of Education, Skills and Employment including:
    • name
    • student ID and unique student identifier (USI) and/or Commonwealth Higher education Student Support Number (CHEESN) or PRISMS/Confirmation of Enrolment number for international students
    • age
    • gender
    • diversity and inclusion (e.g., does the student identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, a person with disability, first in family, and/or from a culturally and linguistically diverse background)
    • original postcode and state/territory for recipients that are relocating to study at the Bendigo campus
    • current permanent address
    • term/semester residency postcode and Australian state or territory
    • amount of funding and when it was paid
    • program of study, campus and qualification
  • Must complete a survey each semester regarding residency, failure to complete and provide current residency information will terminate the scholarship
  • Must complete a survey regarding this scholarship that will be provided to the Department of Education, Skills and Employment which will include information such as your experiences while studying regionally

Notice to applicants

The scholarship application process is highly competitive with a limited number of scholarships available. Unfortunately, not all eligible applicants will receive one.

Only successful candidates will be notified via email to their RMIT student account.
