RMIT at Melbourne Design Week

RMIT is a major partner to Melbourne Design Week and in 2021 explores how design is tackling some of the biggest challenges we face today, tomorrow and into the future in an exciting and extensive program of events.

It is hard to think of a theme that might resonate more with Victorians at this point in our history than 'Design the World You Want', the focus of this year's Melbourne Design Week.

Living through the pandemic has brought about urgency and accelerated our reckoning with the fundamentals of our existence, such as the future of work and what it will take to design an inclusive and equitable community and society; our capacity to make sense of and design a just future in the face of profound technological changes; and, our ability to re-design ways of being that ensure the future of the planet. Taking time to consider how we might work together to create a better, healthier future for the planet and its inhabitants has never seemed more important.

Not surprisingly, given the centrality of these themes to so much of the work at RMIT, Melbourne Design Week 2021 has inspired many of us, resulting in a phenomenal 50+ accepted submissions from across the university.

Included in Melbourne Design Week from RMIT are installations, exhibitions, lectures, launches, talks, and films from across all areas of DSC plus research hubs such as Centre for Urban Research, Contemporary Art and Social Transformation, Health Transformation Lab and Care-Full Design Lab, as well as works from two Masters students who collaborated with NGV to refine their projects.

For the first time, The Capitol joins with the NGV to present MDW @ The Capitol RMIT and will host talks, films, book launches and installations.
