William Peterson is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Drama at Flinders University and former Director of the Centre for Theatre and Performance at Monash University.
He was foundational academic staff in Theatre Studies at the National University of Singapore and has been a lecturer at the University of Waikato and Associate Professor at the California State University San Bernardino. Author of Theatre and the Politics of Culture in Contemporary Singapore (Wesleyan 2001), he has published widely on religious performance in the Philippines, M?ori and P?keh? theatre in Aotearoa/New Zealand, intercultural theatre practice and international theatre festivals.
His current research focuses on community-based performance in the Philippines and performing publics at international expositions. His research has been supported by fellowships at the Asia Research Institute (National University of Singapore) and the International Institute for Asian Studies (University of Leiden) as well as residencies at the University of Amsterdam, The University of Hawaii (East-West Center), the University of the Philippines (Diliman), and Ateneo de Manila University.
