The Dangerous Consumptions Colloquium draws on social, cultural and critical theory to discuss research on any forms of dangerous, risky and contested consumption.
This year's Colloquium is hosted by RMIT University’s School of Global, Urban and Social Studies. The convenors are Peta Malins, Cameron Duff and Larissa Sandy.
Presentations are encouraged from critical, social and cultural studies perspectives exploring topics as diverse as alcohol, tobacco, pharmaceuticals, coffee, sugar, illicit drugs, gambling, sex, IVF, surrogacy, human hair, clothing, coal, oil, food and animals.
The Colloquium runs over two days with a single stream of papers (there are no concurrent sessions). This gives participants the opportunity to share ideas and understandings from different perspectives and enter into collaborative discussions about dangerous consumptions and the conceptual approaches used to make sense of them.
Program will be available closer to event date.
