Over the past 9 months, intense debate has raged over the outcome of the referendum on the United Kingdom's (UK) membership of the European Union (EU).
There has been extensive discussion of the decision's implications for the UK and for the EU, with predictions of beautiful or horrendous futures on both sides. The UK parliament has enacted the simplest of legislation enabling the UK Government to activate article 50. There has also been much stargazing about the negotiations themselves and how they would unfold.
