This 90 minute seminar will feature a panel discussion about the new Australian film starring Kate Winslet and Judy Davis, The Dressmaker.
Presented by RMIT Screen Cultures Research Lab; the Centre for Communication, Politics and Culture; Women in Film and Television (WIFT, Vic.) and The Australian Director's Guild (ADG, Vic.).
About the film
Based on the best-selling novel by Rosalie Ham, The Dressmaker sees Jocelyn Moorhouse return to direct this bittersweet comedy set in early 1950s Australia.
After many years working as a dressmaker in exclusive Parisian fashion houses, Tilly Dunnage (Kate Winslet), returns to the tiny middle-of-nowhere town of Dungatar. Not only does she reconcile with her ailing, eccentric mother Molly (Judy Davis) and unexpectedly fall for the pure-hearted Teddy (Liam Hemsworth), but, armed with her sewing machine and an incredible sense of style, she transforms the women of the town and sets about righting the wrongs of the past.
Co-starring Hugo Weaving, Barry Otto, Sarah Snook and Rebecca Gibney.
Trams running along Swanston Street include routes 1, 3, 5, 6, 8, 16, 64, 67 and 72, from which you can connect to the train at Melbourne Central or Flinders Street.
