Dr Patrick Maes is an executive with over 30 years’ experience in banking, advanced technology, architecture, systems development, and management consulting.
General Manager Strategy & Planning, Global Technology Services and Operations (GTSO) Chief Technology Officer, Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ)
He is responsible for defining the strategy and plan for GTSO - ANZ’s delivery division, which provides all of ANZ’s technology, operations and shared services. The strategy focuses on customer experience, productivity and transformation outcomes, by driving an enterprise approach across the Bank.
Prior to joining ANZ, Patrick worked as Global Principal Consultant - Investment and Transactional Banking at HCL Technologies, and has worked for many companies across Europe, Asia, Australia and North America, including Bankers Trust Alex Brown, start-up investment bank WIT Capital, Rabobank International, IBM, and AXA.
Patrick has a doctorate in Applied Economics from the University of Antwerp (Belgium) and a Masters in Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Sciences from the University of Gent (Belgium), and serves on the advisory board of Melbourne’s RMIT School of Computer Science and Information Technology (CSIT).
He is equally passionate about technology and inspiring his teams to achieve shared success and the satisfaction and rewards that accompany it. He has spoken extensively at international conferences on financial services topics including technology, strategy, and innovation, and has delivered guest lectures to a number of universities. Married with five children, his interests include cooking, gardening, and fly fishing when he can make time.
