Michael is the co-presenter of ABC News Breakfast on ABC1 and ABC News24 and the president of the Melbourne Press Club.

A seasoned journalist and broadcaster, with more than 25 years covering some of the biggest stories in Australia and around the world, including Indonesia, Cuba and India.
Michael spent four years as an ABC correspondent in Washington reporting on the 2008 presidential election in which Barack Obama made history, also covering Hurricane Katrina, the trial of David Hicks at Guantanamo Bay, the Virginia Tech massacre and as ABC's Wall Street correspondent during the height of the global financial crisis in 2008.
Michael spent five years covering finance for AM, The World Today, PM, The Midday Report, presented the ABC's Inside Business program and the 7pm TV News. In the mid 1990s Michael was with the ABC's Parliament House bureau in Canberra filing for Radio News and as Lateline business and economics correspondent covering business and finance. An experienced political reporter, having worked in the federal, Victorian and NSW press galleries, jousting with leaders like Paul Keating, Jeff Kennett and Steve Bracks.
